Chrome requires Ventura as of July 28, 2026. After some thought I decided to upgrade what I have, from Monterey. The M1 has 339 GB available.
Last time I did something like this it wasn’t available online and I had to have a shop do it.
softwareupdate --list-full-installers
Found Ventura. It took 21 hours to download on DSL.
1. Update SSD backup
2. Ping Apple to verify the route to “software content delivery network” is open
ping -c 3 swcdn.apple.com
3. Download — no sudo
softwareupdate –fetch-full-installer –full-installer-version 13.7.8
Should show download progress in Terminal
4. Open Activity Monitor if feel the need to see the Network
5. Code-signing assessment
codesign –verify –verbose /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Ventura.app
Should return “valid on disk” or without messages
Did not work. Needed:
pkgutil –checksignature “Install macOS Ventura.app”
If total silence and concerned,
echo $?
0 means zero errors, any number from 1 to 255 means a specific error occurred.
Notes: Could not drag file icon from Applications; to see file icon in Applications it was necessary to relaunch Finder with:
killall Finder
It’s named “Install macOS Ventura.app”
