Exploring Ubuntu and GParted

Updating

Last month I updated the Numbat, explored snaps, and updated the snaps.

Today I updated the debs and snaps.

Boot with GParted Live USB

  1. Reboot computer with flash drive in USB
Needed ESC to get to Aptio UEFI BIOS
then manually choose boot from flash drive
Should I remove stuff from the Boot Override?
  2. Press enter when Live boot screen is displayed
    GParted Live [Default Settings]
  3. Press the enter key to use standard US keymap
  4. Press the enter key to use the US English Language
  5. Press the enter key to start up default graphical environment (mode 0)

Should see GUI

In GUI:
To select a device go to GParted | Devices menu option and select a device
or from drop-down menu at upper left
Look at: text list details, device details, model, partition table, sector size
Partition | Information
Padlock icon: mounted
Exclamation triangle: Possible file system problem

GBs and GiBs

Size of disk device will always be a lower number than that reported by disk manufacturer
160 GB = 149 GiB

My calculation: GiB is .93125 of GB

GParted uses IEC binary prefixes
1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes
Disk manufacturers use SI decimal prefixes
1 MB = 1,000,000
