So what should the permissions be for /sources at the end of Chapter 4?
The manual would seem to be leaving /sources as root:root.
Instances of Google AI Mode were divided, but some of them argued forcefully that to compile by user lfs, then /sources had to be lfs:lfs and to change it to that whether the manual said it explicitly or not.
This guy, Dave, says it didn’t work unless you had both /sources and /tools as lfs:lfs, here under “Tools permissions issues”:
https://blog.daves-tech-stuff.net/linux%20from%20scratch/lfs-building-and-booting-the-system/
And this other guy, COGlory, also did this, although, unlike Dave, he didn’t post that he had finished LFS:

The most recent Google AI Mode instance said that it doesn’t matter if /sources is root:root or lfs:lfs except when it comes time to delete things from it.
We’ll see.
This particular rabbit hole drove me insane.
